I think because vets have figured out how to use macros and block/switch items or weapon making use of the poor animation syncronization where some events only need 1 frame - like relocating. Part of the problem with Savage XR is that a lot of players only play human, which makes games harder to start and fair. Also do not consider this a review of each game I listed, but rather as me pointing these games out to you for you to check out. I have not provided links because I'm not sure if it counts as advertising or not. Natural Selection: A payed for game on steam that can be considered the setting of aliens meets the gameplay of savage.
On steam, I'm not sure if it's dead or not. Nuclear Dawn: A scifi styled game that plays similar to savage. I believe the game is dying but you can still find people to play with. Both sides are pretty similar to each other, unlike in savage the main difference I notice is an cosmetic one. It's free and it plays pretty similar to savage with overhead commanders, research and classes.
Worth checking out if you're a fan of the original C&C renegadeĮmpires Mod: A scifi post-apocalyspe styled source engine that is on steam. I believe renegade X doesn't have a commander, but there is still resource harvesting and classes. RenegadeX: A free remake of the original command and conquor Renegade. Also free to play, but I haven't played it. Savage 2: I believe this is the offical sequal to the original savage. Worth checking out if you like the original savage.
I have not played it recently so I do not know if this game is still alive, but it's free and comes with its own launcher and mods. SavageXR: this is a free version of the original savage and probably one of the closest thing to this game currently.
